Think for Yourself

"The most dangerous man, to any government, is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost invariably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And if he is not romantic personally, he is apt to spread discontent among those who are."

- H.L. Mencken

the one legged dead terrorist mastermind of the world

That's right folks, Osama is nowhere to be found so we have to keep dredging out our other boogey man, Al-Zarqawi.

Let's see ... he's been shot in the lung, lost a leg, wounded again, killed, then he was in Iran and now he's handing out arms and money on the Syrian border in Iraq.

Who buys this stuff anymore...

Creation

Ever wonder what makes you unique ... you know, what makes you you.

Is it the bundles of wires we call nerves and blood vessels? How about the 12 square feet of skin we have, or the heart beating in your chest perhaps?

Or maybe it's that 2-pound lump of gray matter inside your head.

When you sleep and see yourself in dreams ... is that really you?

It amazes me that the only things that make us truly unique, truly special from everybody else, are the one's that are intangible.

Sickness, Insomnia and other Randomness

I'm never going to work sick again. Not even if I'm just a little bit sick. It won't happen. Ever.

I can only say that I feel extremely sorry for the other two guys in the restroom with me at work on Thursday. I musta' sounded like Fish from American Pie stuck in the girls bathroom with 2 servings of ex-lax waiting to come out. It was so loud, I giggled.

I know, I know, too much information. But really, i think it's funny, I have no shame I guess. But yeah, never again will I go to work even the least bit “ill”.

But, as you'll notice, I am going to work, which is only one of the reasons my site and this blog have been neglected as of late. If you're not in the know, I am now working full time for Tribal DDB here in Dallas, doing art direction, concepting and Design. So now that I'm finally settled in and have got my bearings, I'm actually back to blogging and updating the site.

Speaking of … hope you like the new blog design, it should be mirrored at materialvessel.com by the time I post this. I plan to start blogging more often, and about a wider range of subjects in the future.

Another reason for the neglect is this kickin' case of insomnia I've got going. You truly are never really alseep or awake. Going to bed at 2am and waking up at 4 does not make for a happy Matthew. Tylenol PM only helps so much too,and there's nothing worse than being completely and utterly exahusted, tired beyond belief, only to lay down and not be able to sleep.

*Sigh.

More to come once I've rested.

7 Days

That's how long til' i think the sleeping giant awakes.

On June 30th, over 1000 photos and videos will be released documenting ongoing torture at Abu Gharib Prison in Iraq. Before being censored the first go-round, some member on capitol hill were allowed to examine the photos and video.

Here are some of their remarks.

"Some of the worst things that happened you don't know about, okay? Videos, um, there are women there. Some of you may have read that they were passing letters out, communications out to their men. This is at Abu Ghraib ... The women were passing messages out saying 'Please come and kill me, because of what's happened' and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst above all of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It's going to come out."
-Sy Hersh

"The American public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here."
-Sen. Lindsey Graham (R)

The unrevealed photos and videos contain acts "that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel and inhuman."
-Rumsfeld

"I’m gravely concerned that many Americans will have the same impulse as I did when I saw this picture, and that’s to turn away from them. And we risk losing public support for this conflict. As Americans turned away from the Vietnam War, they may turn away from this one unless this issue is quickly resolved with full disclosure immediately."
-Sen. John McCain (R)

"What we saw is appalling,"
-Bill Frist (R)

"There were some awful scenes. It felt like you were descending into one of the rings of hell, and sadly it was our own creation."
-Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D)

I turn 25 on Sunday and maybe, just maybe, karma will feel inclined to give me back my country as a late birthday gift.
